What corporate practice has better longevity if your goal is to stay in big law for as long as possible: M&A or Capital Markets?

By better longevity do you mean less likely to cause burnout? If so, Capital Markets def has better longevity, though it can be a bit repetitive/boring to some. M&A is probably the most burnout-inducing practice there is. Hold on for the ride long enough to get that sweet, sweet in-house gig.

Almost always, unless you’re at the top levels of the in-house practice. But in exchange you get predictability and a reduced work load.

I’ve had a bad case of work anxiety ever since I started a new job ~7 months ago. The adjustment was ROUGH. I was making mistake after mistake. I powered through and somehow got glowing reviews at year end, with people saying I’ve moved past that point.

I’m convinced I’ve only tricked people and sooner or later they’re gonna catch on. I have extremely bad Sunday scaries, I’m always fighting down my anxiety whenever a new ask comes through. I don’t know what to do.

I’ve been having a bit of trouble working with one partner at a new firm. There are definitely things I can/need to work on for improvement, but I’ve been practicing for four years and have had no trouble with other partners/peers before. This partner sent an email to me with bills for one client of his/hers I worked on and now looped in a practice management person to have a ‘management call’ (prob to talk about billing less..) Should I be looking for other opportunities?

Would love to hear thoughts on best approach of you are a senior associate at V10 firm. Do you just become counsel until they tell you that partnership is not in the cards or do you try to hop to the first partnership (equity, or at least NEP with clear progression to equity if you bring in some business) opportunity at a say V50 firm. I’m not home grown at my current firm, but do have a small book currently.

But now, one partner has become super mad and when I explained ADD, he said:
