Want to make more money in marketing? Move closer to the sales team.

A colleague pivoted from "Brand Marketing" to "Sales Enablement" (creating pitch decks, one-pagers, and case studies for reps). Their salary jumped 30%. The closer your role is tied to closed-won revenue, the more they pay you. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’ve seen it so much. The closer you are to money changing hands, the more of it you’ll see in your hand. I just despise sales jobs so much. Every one of those roles seems way out of my league. Making pitch decks and case studies sounds like a nice middle ground, though.

It is something for me to consider. Start small and see what opportunities might be out there.

I’ve seen this a few times and I’m always volunteering for opportunities like pitch decks and helping prep for pitches. I feel like if I have a career move left in me it’s moving into sales.

Very well said. I appreciate the additional context.

This is one of marketing's best-kept secrets. Revenue-adjacent roles — Sales Enablement, Product Marketing, Demand Gen — consistently out-earn Brand and Content by $20-40K at the same seniority level. Why? Because CFOs can directly attribute budget to closed deals. "We increased brand awareness" doesn't survive a budget cut. "We helped close $2M in pipeline" does. If you're in a pure brand role, start attaching revenue metrics to everything you do now — before you make the move. Has anyone else made this pivot?

I have an urgent situation that I need advice for: what job to take? I currently have 2 job offers. Offer A (Scientist 3): 70k with full benefits including 15 PTO days and 5k tuition assistance yearly. It was sent to me last Wednesday and yesterday they left me a voicemail asking for a decision at my earliest convenience. Offer B (Manager): 76k with full benefits minus tuition assistance and only 5 PTO days first year (15 days after). Both companies said they'd groom me to take management roles.

Hey guys,

Currently in Saas sales for MDM and AV, but I'm getting tired of the sales side and constant budget chase. Probably also because we get few leads and I have to do a lot of building pipeline from scratch. I'm thinking about taking some online courses to try to move over to cyber security, what would be the easiest step that way career wise- preferably also away fro sales?

Question about remote job negotiations

I'm currently interviewing for a remote role for a company based in NY.

The thing is I'm based in a different city (southern U.S.)

My question is:

When it comes time to talk compensation, should I base the market rate for the role on my city of residence or NY?

Would it make sense to ask them directly how they determine comp for NY-bases vs. other city-based employees?

Anyone have experience with this?
