Was hired to replaced a Senior Specialist got new accounts as year progressed maintained highest number even from current Seniors. Been asking for help. Until recently was told due to getting help and removal of a few accounts have to take over some complex accounts the Lead is managing. It doesn’t make sense as I’m suppose to get a work load balance but it seems contradicting. At this point level of work has been as a Senior without title and pay. Need advice how to handle.

I would document the accounts you’ve handled, the volume compared to others, the complexity of the work, and any Senior-level responsibilities you’ve already been performing. Then ask for a formal conversation with your manager.

I’d frame it calmly, like: “I’m happy to continue growing and taking on complex work, but I’d like to understand how these responsibilities align with my current title and compensation. If I’m being asked to perform at a Senior level, I’d like to discuss what the path and timeline look like for that title/pay adjustment.”

Try to keep the conversation focused on facts, not frustration. Workload balance is one issue, but being assigned Senior-level work without Senior-level recognition is a separate issue and it’s fair to ask for clarity.

Warmly,

I completely agree with Rochelle's great advice!

If I could add just a few things I've learned over the years, remain calm if the person becomes confrontational, don't be afraid to ask for time to think if you're put on the spot with questions, and document all face-to-face, email, and Teams/Zoom communication.

I'm sure this will all work out and you will get that new title and increase in pay.

I just started a new job 2 months ago, benefits and PTO don’t start until 90 days in so I still have a month before I can take off any time, and today found out my company doesn’t offer paid maternity leave.
I’m really struggling handling the symptoms and maintaining my full time job. Thinking about looking for a part time job to have more time to myself through the pregnancy since I won’t be getting a paid leave anyways, but lost on where to start looking. Any recommendations?

Fish who have been feds,

I have been stuck deciding between two offers (both in IC, but one is more program analysis -similar to consulting work but on the fed side, and actual analysis).

The program analysis offer is at a higher GS level and a more well known agency, but is not what I’m interested in.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a decision? Go with what I want to do, or go with the more well known agency and higher gs?
