We had a corporate visit today and suddenly everything turned into a dog and pony show. Extra cleaning, borrowed fixtures, leadership hovering everywhere. The store looked perfect for about three hours, which is funny because that is not how it usually runs. It made me wonder what we are actually trying to measure. Would it make more sense for them to show up before everything is staged so they can see the real day to day?

When I was a GM I never did any of this, cleaning and organizing was a daily task.

There’s an old saying “It’s not where you visit, it’s where you live.” Some extra cleaning and detail is normal for such visits but it shouldn’t be a big departure from what you do everyday.

If the visit is announced, they will certainly prepare for it. I know ours are, so they always make sure everything is spotless. An unannounced store visit is well within their rights, however, I’m sure they’d much rather see organization and like everything is in order

Yeah that happens to us too. We get a heads up and then frantically clean. lol

Frantically cleaned, sometimes literally on my hands and knees, before an announced corporate visit. Schedule extra team members for smoother operatione. Always been part of the "game" at my old jobs, especially in food service.

Where i came from a corporate visit or investor visit would call the majority of the managers from your district and maybe some from another.. far from the reality of daily operations...

Yep. It's ALWAYS like that... ALWAYS.
And the slackers will hide or "look busy" while not doing any extra to help.

Exactly! It feels like they’re judging a snapshot instead of the real work. Seeing the store in its normal chaos would probably give a much better picture of how things actually run day to day.

I remember I knew some corporate people at my last retail job and the store manager was "jealous" that they would go out of their way to say hello to me during a store walk. Made me laugh, like sorry... you would think the store manager would be impressed that I am well recognized? I sensed some thirty-ness... maybe she needed some water?

Maybe I am being ridiculous, but I feel like I’ll be ready for dating in about 3 months. The only concern is I turn 50 later next year. Am I at a point where women can’t see themselves with a 50 yr old even if they are outgoing, fun and athletic or am I just in my head?
