I worked in a store where employees would dare each other to try stuff like that. They'd figure out a way to steal stuff just to win the dare. I only remember one incident where a guy got caught and was fired. But I'm sure a lot of stuff found its way out the front door or the loading dock with inside help.

Oh gosh! You reminded me a guy who worked at managerial position would put fresh produce on the side and use discounted bags to put them in and take them later home. They used to use those discounted bags for a bit older produce. He got fired as well eventually.
I kind of get it, especially these days. I would never do it myself, but when you are working for starvation wages while the company brings in record profits and the CEO has a salary/bonus of over $15mil/yr, I get why people would want their take from the company to reflect a little closer to how much work they put in. Because our pay certainly isn't fair for what's expected in the retail industry.

You made a good point. People working front end jobs don’t get paid enough. But I still feel that stealing from the company you work for is not justified.

That sounds crazy. I know a person who would just take money out of the cash drawer and give it to her husband. Needless to say, they got fired after doing that several times.

Wow! That’s really bold. Didn’t she think they would count the register and check if it’s short? I’ve seen a few incidents like this too.
I can't fathom having the hubris to try to pull something like that off. Like did he think no one would notice, or did he just not care? Wild either way.

That’s what I thought. He could have done it in a smarter way if he really wanted to. Why choose $2 for something worth at least $500? I guess he got greedy and too bold. 🤨

70% of all theft is "internal". Seems high? The difference is, employees can do so much more damage before they are caught. But they always get caught.

70% is definitely a scary number. I think they get caught because they create a pattern after stealing many times. Once someone notices them, they are watched closely and get caught.
