What level is “head of xyz”?
I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

I hope the interview screening is still at google level
As a sales rep at GCP, can confirm this. The reps we’re hiring are mostly untalented at selling. Not sure what to attribute it to - could be our interview process is built to find good engineers but doesn’t translate to sales.
Many lack foundational sales skills like how/why you do discovery or how to influence across an enterprise org. Many rely on handing out free credits which seldom gets a deal done. Don’t see enough challenging customers or influencing change. We aren’t onboarding well from a product perspective either.

The bar was relaxed heavily for cloud sales. The other cloud groups are still holding the bar really high.
As for cloud vs Google - the major difference is that a lot of Google roles are internal....which means super deep tech skills are required vs cloud where a mix of client and tech skills are required.
It's still really hard to get into cloud in general. It's not a cake walk
How was the bar relaxed for cloud sales/how do you know? Not disagreeing with you, but curious how you know that.
Sales is prob the last group you should ‘relax the bar’ with. Sales is such an important part of a tech company - There’s a reason the sales team makes as much or more than our engineers. it’s a shame that with all that money to offer we aren’t hiring+developing talent.
