The loudest mouth in the room gets the promos and the hardest working continues to be the hardest working. don’t burn out trying to think that loyalty to your company and ‘grind’ work ethic are the path to success. Be your own advocate for value and worth and create healthy boundaries with managers early on. also account management is not your enemy and will one day be client side so treat them with respect as partners not as problems (collaborate with empathy).
Thanks so much that helps! 🙏
If you want to get promoted, you need to already be doing what that next position is doing. They need to see that you’re capable of the position before giving it to you.
Oh absolutely! You can only do this for so long. But this is how I’ve been promoted and it took me time to figure that out. As a coordinator or executive I was just trying to do those tasks for example.
Merit is no longer a thing. Ass kissing matters. It’s a sociopaths world now.
Yes, this is related to somewhat what the TracyLocke1 said. And I’ve experienced it first hand too, there’s so much brown-nosing that if you’re not part of inner circle of circle jerk then you’re basically as good as out of the agency. Outcasted methodically -> PIP -> layoff
Love the comments on here about being your own advocate!
I’d add don’t expect promotions every year or just because you’ve been in a role for a set timeframe. The higher up you get, the more time between promotions, so don’t get discouraged.
