Instead of focusing on the subtle ways, let’s focus on the very loud solutions we can implement to fight back at anti-blackness in the work place.
If I feel someone is treating me differently, I call it out. “I noticed you had a lot of feedback on that last deck, how can I get to a place where there’s more trust in my process and execution?”
Is it a matter of communication? Managing up? We all encounter different types of prejudice, racism, and/or management styles.
Without dismissing what’s happening, where I’m at with it, is to call it out, and stand up in it. Because we really ain’t got time to play these games with these people.
Call it out!
Of course, I cannot tell you how you feel. But respectfully, you most likely are not just “feeling some kind of way”. This is an experience not only I have had but many other black talents on this app.
You are doing great, I’m sure. Because for us, there’s usually little room to be a failure in these spaces. One strategist noted in this post to face it loudly. If you do that, cool. However, I also want to say we don’t always have to pressure ourselves to be soldiers against oppression. There’s so many who have fought that hull before us. And the truth is, racism and anti-blackness is not an issue for black people to fix. These anti-black cultures are structured by design. There can be power in advocating for your self-preservation and seeking spaces you’re respected, rather than tolerated as a position filler. Not saying that’s your experience but just want to say you have options and power here. It doesn’t necessarily have to be push back against what has historically been current in this country for centuries.
Please be kind to yourself and advocate for yourself how you see fit. Whether that’s looking for other opportunities where you feel respected or facing it loudly. Much light and love your way.
Very kind of you, thank you
Truly appreciate these responses, thank you all 🫶🏾
Too often I'm forced to over-validate Black people and other poc when making recommendations. They act like the people driving culture being copied by white people have no reach
