What do y’all think about JD alternative careers in

Contract Analyst/Management

Compliance

Purchasing (buyer/procurement)

For a recent grad with bad grades. I’m at a small firm doing civil litigation in a LCOL city in Florida going to be paid as an independent contractor for $50 per billable hour once licensed. I don’t feel like the ceilings high compared to these other alternative careers (in nyc my hometown). Somewhat don’t like civil litigation. What could I land in?

Thoughts?

I think all of these — or saying in law — are great. It all depends on what you want to do. Personally I think compliance is best. So many jobs and you can really grow in that field.

I’m in Compliance and it’s great but I do miss practicing law and am considering going back. I practiced for 4 years prior to going in house though so I didn’t go straight to a compliance role.

I think you’d need to show a level of subject matter familiarity or expertise to make that jump.

She really smart and hardworking, I would love to help her find a career - not just a job - that she enjoys. Thanks I’m advance!

It's super frustrating to be "time poor".

That's seemingly just the nature of working in Biglaw.

But every day you have the option to buy back your time.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

How many firms is too many? I’ve practiced 13 years. Since I was a 1st year associate, every 3 years or so I’ve been recruited for another opportunity that is hard to pass up. I’ve been at my current firm 3 years and got the call again, again about an opportunity that is hard to pass up. I don’t like having a reputation of a flight risk, but this keeps happening. Should I decline to pursue the opportunity just so I have a longer track record at my current firm? This will be my 4th if I move.
