The spots are decent. But I dislike “Play what you want, when you want.” They should not try to out-Spotify Spotify. It won’t work. Pandora should instead double-down on their real strength: radio stations. The creative in these spots would still work for that approach, perhaps even better.
Pandora’s song-selection algorithms for stations are FAR better than Spotify’s. Give it a try, put in the same artist as a station on both, and listen for a couple hours. The Pandora selections are far better, like a night and day difference.
You can put on a Pandora station for a party and let it run all night, and there are rarely any duds. You can’t put on a station on Spotify without skipping some wack-ass song from left field every 20 minutes. You’re pretty much forced to stick with playlists on Spotify. Pandora’s algorithms are so good you don’t even need playlists at all. What a missed opportunity!
“Funny fat guy” acting sexy and all wet. 😴😴
Serious. This is so lazy. This screams client insisted despite advice from creative.
Nice production, but the concept seems a tad expected and doesn’t really differentiate Pandora’s service from the competition enough.
Anyone else get chip and dale Chris Farley vibes?
You folks working it (sorry) too hard. It’s a “think of the brand and smile” ad—legit for just that purpose, and only that. It is not the Magna Carta or the Gettysburg Address—although the guy does have an epic lawnmower stripper pose. It’s part of the mix, and stands out in that context.
Nothing wrong with a “think of the brand and smile” strategy in and of itself, and these spots are ok for that purpose, just like you said. But is that the best strategy for an underdog that’s getting eaten alive by its main rival?
Not original at all. Pretty sure I’ve seen this before. Yawn.
Lol this is the script you write when it’s round 71 and you just want to go home
Open on a guy doing something mundane.
He cracks open our product. Suddenly, everything gets amazing. The light shifts and the music kicks in as he launches into an epic dance sequence. We see him sing into a household item. It’s glorious and he’s so happy.
Cut wide to onlookers staring in disbelief. He doesn’t care. Our product is so great, he’s totally lost in his own world.
Final tight shot of the guy in absolute ecstasy. It’s actually pretty good, but is eventually replaced with a product shot due to client mandated best practices.
SUPER: Pandora. Listen Better.
