I’ve seen more and more ocm job postings on LinkedIn - so there are parallel moves going from consulting into being an internal FTE. Next, there are adjacent transfers, like corporate comms or instructional designers. Then there are close jumps: chief of staff, strategy director, process leader, or HRBP. We get exposed to a lot in ocm that process-specific consultants don’t get. Identity your interest areas and I’m sure your experience can create a good case for a move.
Moving to industry in change management usually means shifting from a consulting or advisory role; where you help multiple clients implement change; to working in-house for a single company. The focus changes from breadth to depth: you get to really understand one organization’s processes, culture, and challenges, and implement change day-to-day. It often comes with more stability and predictable hours compared to consulting, and it can open paths to operational or strategic leadership within the company. To make it simple, it’s about taking your change management skills and applying them internally rather than across different clients. I truly hope this made sense.
