Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
I mean it's possible that I may receive a merit, but I feel like I won't considering my manager never brought it up & the dept update made it sound like those receiving it should know by now.

I’m an immigration paralegal but I have an MA in human rights. I’ve been working at my org for 2 1/2 years but I don’t see an upwards growth for me unless I go to law school but that is really expensive and it’ll take a few years. I have 8.9 years of tech writing experience. How much CTC should I be expecting when I join a new company. My current CTC is 20L pa (18.75 (fixed) + 1.75 (variable)).

VC community - a recruiter (from an external agency) reached out to me in regards to a strategy position in the VC firm’s local office but I feel tremendously under-qualified as someone with less than a year of consulting experience. Do I have a chance to interview? How might I best demonstrate interest and competency?
