money
Way to buck the negative stereotypes guys 🤦♂️
Anyway, I enjoy feeling like Robinhood - taking from a greedy leviathan and returning what is won to the common man. The David v. Goliath aspect of what we do is thrilling!
Definitely the money
My favorite thing is finding that line in employment policies in trucking cases that inevitably say “do not ever admit fault in any circumstance ever no matter how at fault you are.” And asking the driver about it after he denies liability back and forth for 2 hours straight.
What else can you do that helps people? Family law? Let me slit my wrists. Bankruptcy a bunch of tire kickers who want you to work for next to nothing. Estate planning, boring. Billable hours, no thank you. At least here, we can help people get justice from people who were hurt by other's negligence. Once in a while, we get a life changing settlement for someone whose been burned by fire, hurt in a roll over, dram shop drunk driving, drowning, lost a leg, etc. It does feel good to change someone's life hopefully. And sometimes there are people who are hurt that are still injured and all we can do is get them the best settlement. But at least this area of law is the most rewarding imo.
But seriously. Raise your hand if you think the people saying “money” are actually in defense work. If the reason you’re in PI work is purely just for the money, you might as well stay on the other side. Passion breeds success in this field. Not the other way around.
Ha, we wish. Defense attys are paid terrible rates by insurance carriers who then hire audit companies to drastically cut our bills. Even decent plaintiff attorneys make CONSIDERABLY more money than even absolutely excellent defense attorneys.
I love the clients I get to work with. These are regular people who have been injured and who oftentimes have no recourse but through litigation. The contingent fee aspect is high stakes, but for these clients so is the prospect of not settling a case or winning at trial.
No billables
