Chicago attorneys: what is the base salary of a 3 year associate? What % of fee do they get on cases they bring in? Do they get paid any money on cases they’re working on but didn’t bring in? I know it varies, looking for info based on personal experience/knowledge.

When I was a third-year attorney in Chicago I made 70 K base and I got 50% of the fee for any workers comp case I brought in and 40% of the fee for any personal injury case I brought in. I am now an eighth year attorney. No longer in Chicago I moved to a more affordable state in the mid Atlantic 3 years ago and got a raise at new job here.

Have any of your friends in Chicago stuck with PI? Feels like the industry forces us to either open our own shop or bounce around from firm to firm.

Am on the other side, but have had friends who did. Think most common is a base (varies by firm highly) with a % of recoveries. Thinking my buddy had 10%. Trouble is these agreements were not in writing and one buddy had a boss who told him the % only applied to the first $X after my buddy had well-exceeded that amount. Another had his boss deny he was entitled to a fee at all. Ended up in litigation.

Hi All,

One of my friend is having 6 years of experience in .Net with Angular and he got 13.5LPA from FIS Global. He discussed with HR to revise his package and HR asked to share the salary expectation over the email.

Is it okay to send salary expectation on email and if okay then how much package he should ask either 15, 18 or 20? Please Suggest

I’m trying to figure out what I’m worth. I’m a director / editor who works directly in-house at an agency. I’ve directed several (roughly one a month) broadcast spots in the last year for a national fast food client and I’ve also edited those spots among editing other random national spots in-between. The production budgets range from roughly 200k-500k per shoot depending on how many days it is. I get paid 75k yearly which is feeling pretty low when I do the math. Is that fair?

What would you say is a reasonable number of cases per number of staff in a PI firm? What number is manageable and what is a number you would say is going into the realm of malpractice. For example for about 150 cases I know of a firm that has about 3 attorneys and 4 support staff. But some have 400-500 with 2 attorneys & 1 support staffer. What are your thoughts or how many cases is your firm currently handling?
