Overall flexibility around working hours. Greedy childcare industry (especially in NYC) needs a complete overhaul. How we approach education overall. Something more modular and works with our individual lives vs these static inflexible systems.
We have started talking about this as an agency. A real wfh policy... we’ve all seen how well video conferencing works. So it’s a great way to be accountable working from home without judgement. I agree on flex. I’d love days where I can wfh until 10 and then go in from 10:30-5. Even if I’m in the office I want it to be ok to go take a call or video conference from outside. Just the amount I’ve been able to be outside feels great! To be able to do a load of laundry in between calls. With the kids home it’s insane but it’s created such a better balance between work/home during the times they are occupied (so what it would be like if they were at school). Pre this it was all compartmentalized. 7-9 breakfast, fighting kids to get dressed, rush to school. 9-6 work only (while thinking through dinner and the 8 million parenting things). 6-8 dinner, bedtime... by 9pm I didn’t want to do laundry or clean or hell even shower. Now it’s all fluid. There are still crazy ups and downs but it’s just mentally less taxing. Also I don’t have any social obligations causing stress. So on a personal note I think I will scale back those things.
It was all just too much. I hope we relax expectations and slow down. Worry less about optics and process for the sake of process.
I feel like right now we are listening to our clients, being patient and wanting to be partners vs just pushing billable hours. That kind of behavior just won’t fly with clients now or in the future. Only those who show ongoing value and commitment (and are present and actively participating in the business) will stay on the roster. That was a rant, but great topic!
Exactly this. Flexible work schedules for all. Industry leading childcare support and subsidy.

What do you think a flexible schedule would look like? Make your 40 hours however and wherever you see fit?
Yes. Mandating your schedule for the whole day. I understand there would have to be a balance to this because you have to consider others. I would love to research how something like this has been successful. If not flexible work schedules, maybe we look at how we tackle childcare.
