What strategies do you use to teach students how to conquer the essay portion of the exam?

I do a series of guided writing workshops through the year. For example, in January I offered 7 different workshops on topics like thesis statements, topic sentences, quote integration, building better commentary, etc. Each student had to complete 3 of the 7 workshops based on areas of need in their essays. It took a lot of time to set up, but I really saw an improvement in their writing.

Let students see a lot of exam essays and discuss why each received what it did. Also, let them see and review each others essays. It is awkward at first, but the gain so much from the good and bad alike.

As a law student interested in going into the field I’ve seen a lot of negative comments saying that only lawyers who couldn’t get into big law go into PA. Although I know most people try to get into big law initially, it is very competitive and many don’t stay past 2-3 years. You certainly don’t make as much going into PA as a lawyer but the pay is certainly not bad and the WLB is generally much better. Can anyone speak to how they got into PA and if you would rather be working in Big Law

Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?
