What time do you usually sign off work—5PM on the dot, or when you’re actually done with everything? I used to be strict about staying glued to my computer until 5, even if I was finished early. But lately, I’ve started logging off once I wrap up for the day, and it’s made those inevitable late nights (sometimes working until 7PM) feel way more balanced. Anyone else shift their mindset around this? Curious how others manage their time in government roles where the culture can be very “by the book.”

I still aim to stick to set hours because it helps me maintain boundaries, but I’ve become more flexible over time. If I finish everything early, I’ll log off guilt-free, and on heavier days, I stay a little longer without resentment. It's about respecting your own time while also meeting expectations.
I'm expected to be available during specific hours and that's when I'm signed in. The thing in the article about leaving 21 minutes early doesn't really make sense to me anyway. There's always something to do, it's not like the work dries up in the afternoon and then magically reappears the next morning.
