Every time a student tells me a college class was easier because of what I taught them, I mark it as a success. So far, none of my students have gone on to become President or even in the state legislature. However, I've had several on school boards and city councils- I love that. I don't always agree with their policies, but I believe they care.
I had a student whose family was unfamiliar with the college admission/scholarship process. I helped him through that process; he got a scholarship; he just graduated with an engineering degree and is employed in his field.
I call that a win.
There’s nothing better than seeing a student in person or online, and them telling you that you were their favorite teacher! While I was still teaching I loved it when student told me they were going into engineering or some other science field because they were in my physics class. 😊
More obvious example: A student that tells me “I love you” or “you’re my favorite teacher” randomly because they usually mean it
Less obvious example: A student who tells me small details of their life-they wouldn’t tell me the small stuff if they thought I wouldn’t listen to them
