Whatever my title says I’m actually a chief of staff.

Any COS out there at private companies with a much bigger personality than the boss? This is fine with the CEO but our board of directors seems thrown off by it. The lead investor mentioned it to the ceo privately that it could be bad for his brand to have me seemingly running things, Or something like that.

CEO and I are long time work associates at multiple companies, he brought me in cuz it worked well before, but your thoughts?

I was CoS for 1.5 year at a nonprofit before joining this company, and have been at my current company for 1.5 years for a total of 3 years of CoS experience. I’m up for a raise this month, and curious what some of you are making for ballpark? I’m interviewing for an EA (not your typical role) to a serial entrepreneur/CEO who is also interviewing for a Chief of Staff. They have mentioned I would make a great CoS based on my prev experience & could see me being a COO in the next 10 yrs. After playing back our last meet, I realise the CEO was trying to tease out of me/get me to probe on interest for CoS role. I am interested but also don’t want to talk myself out of the EA role as I really want to work for this individual – advice pls?
