Brainstorming is coming up with and gathering ideas. Framework is the way in which you present information and/or structure your ideas
The impression I get is the level of depth — ie. framework questions might be a lot broader and take more time to structure and present, where as brainstorming questions won’t have as many “down levels” , and you probably should take less time to structure
You should be structured in your brainstorming, come up with buckets, so it is like a mini framework. But it's ok if you only get to 75% or 90% exhaustive
Brainstorming questions are more specific and focus on one component of the problem. How can we market the company to increase growth, how can we improve employee satisfaction (e.g. improve management, improve benefits, improve comp, improve work experience/culture), and similar types of questions.
Is there an ideal number of points per bucket or ideal number of buckets for brainstorming?
3 buckets maybe 4
2 items per bucket, sometimes 3
As a rating category, brainstorming usually comes later in the case when you are asked for creative input.
I.e: now that you’ve solved X quantity, what are some reasons you can think why y occurred?
Framework is the start, your actual pathway to solving the problem and thus requires much more structure.
