I don’t automatically see it as a drawback if a candidate has another job, as long as they can reliably meet our scheduling needs and performance expectations. Many people take on multiple part-time roles for financial reasons, and it’s fairly common in today’s workforce. However, since our position has busy seasons that may require extra flexibility, I pay close attention to whether candidates can realistically commit to those peak periods without conflicts.
I ask detailed questions about their other commitments and availability, especially around our busiest times, to make sure there’s no overlap or risk of burnout. I also look for signs of strong time-management skills and a track record of balancing multiple responsibilities.
It should be a clear outline of responsibilities including transparency about that busy season. Almost everybody has other commitments, not necessarily of the second job variety. Be crystal clear about the expectations, ask questions, and let them be an adult and decide if it works for them or not.

good advice
I’ve hired part-timers with second jobs, and honestly, it came down to energy and flexibility, not availability on paper. Some folks juggle two roles and still show up sharper than full-timers. What helped was being brutally clear in the listing about peak seasons and schedule swings. I didn’t ban other gigs, but I did flag non-negotiables so only the ones who could genuinely commit stuck around. Saves time, filters fast, respects everyone’s time.
I wouldn’t think it’s realistic to give somebody 20 hours a week and not expect them to have another job or side gig. In today’s economy, I don’t know anyone who could live off of 20 hours a week unless they’re a student and then of course their schedule would be extremely limited as well.

these are my thoughts too

i would just make it clear when the busy seasons are, and what the expectations are for their time commitment. I wouldn't put preferring someone without other commitments in the job listing- I can see this is a turn off for applicants
