i feel the same and it’s made me depressed & burnt out. i want to explore life outside consulting/industry & not even sure how to start.
don’t feel alone, it’s definitely not you. i’m on a really small team and feel 100% out of my element every day. I’m planning to hopefully resign and take time off for my mental health even if i don’t have another offer lined up. there is room for us to slow down. i’ve realized in consulting, in order to prove your value, it’s equated to the willingness of putting in more time, provide more support, work longer hours, and some do it well. i did it well for almost 2 years and the result of it is feeling burnt out & anxiety & the dread of not wanting to work. props to those that can do it for years. for me personally, it’s draining especially as a lower-level employee. and at the end of the day, i found no value or happiness in the overall dynamic of consulting. if you feel overwhelmed, talk to your friends, take your PTO, and no you’re definitely not alone. this never ending grind is not for most of us. everyone is miserable.
You are absolutely not alone. I just burnt out in a big massive way while my personal life crumbled around me. I am now on leave trying to cope with severe anxiety, panic attacks, migraines, depression, and a host of physical digestive issues that the unending stress has contributed to. I have made a commitment to myself not to return to consulting.
