These both suck. Would keep looking but option 1 is better
I agree. Take one of them (#1 looks better to me, too) and keep looking.
I got this advice a while back - no company will give you a second thought if they need to cut you. You should always look our for #1.
I had to leave a job that I had only been in for a month after a 3 month period of unemployment a while back. I felt guilty, but the new offer was from a very large multi-national with great career opportunities. I have zero regrets. So, take an offer now but keep looking.
Take the sales role and learn what you can. Use it as a learning opportunity and a springboard to a better organization with a better product.
You’d probably are better off knowing what you want. If you don’t know where you want to go, any bus will take you somewhere….
Rising Star
It boggles my mind how challenging it is to secure a position with my title compared to the last 15 years. I almost have to pivot now
Anyway I may be getting 2 offers. Not finalized but close. If I get both, which would you choose? I’ve been an individual contributor or lead in tech for 16 years. May be time to pivot
Offer 1:
Sales Engineer
160k salary, 200k if quota met
Very outdated product. At risk of becoming obsolete IMO
Most secure and well funded customer base in America
Hybrid
Used to do some sales not entirely green
Offer 2
IT manager. Would be my first manager position. Probably about time after 16 years
130k, huge paycut compared to my previous IC roles
Non-profit for a cause I mostly agree with
Tech stack is modern - not cutting edge, not outdated
RTO 5 days/week 😭…WHY????
Neither has any job security
I'd go with tech sales due to the unlimited earning potential and it's not your typical sales job, which makes it cool.
I would say depend on everyone’s preference. Am not a sales person and I don't like management. Since I have no other choice I will stick with management.
This will be my initial technology-related position. Therefore, a technical sales role is my preferred choice, although a management position would also be highly desirable.
