None. PE Ops is more reps/experienced base (with the exception of a few specific firms)
MBA would more likely be a revolving door to consulting or banking to pivot in later
Second this - at my fund we focus much more on direct experience than education and don’t hire directly out of MBA programs (though everyone comes from pretty strong backgrounds)
Strong execution experience is required for PE ops, a skill which is developed through direct experiences and not business school.
Yes, any of the T9 will do if you have the right background.
I don’t know anything about PE ops but feel it’s pretty ad hoc and anything good in business and finance would likely be valid
We typically hire folks with prior leadership roles and either connections/unique operating experience in that industry, so they can be helpful for portco execs. If you have that, then a MBA may help you stand out. But honestly, M7 (even HSW) candidates are dime a dozen in PE. Personally, I wouldn't get an exec MBA unless it was from H or S. More for personal amusement than career benefit at this point
DS1, you're right. I hadn't looked closely and wrongly assumed they might have it
EM: from industry usually but if you've spent a lot of time aligned to a particular industry in consulting, that might work too. Just depends on experience. P&L ownership is very critical
Yes. But if you want to really want to lean into the finance aspect of school: Wharton, Booth and Stanford would be better. And I say that as a Kellogg grad.
Happy to chat - I went from Accenture to PE ops, now looking at going back and getting my MBA as well
