Why do employers think it's okay to waste a candidate's time, having them complete a super long assessment only to hear nothing back? I finished a 90-minute test three weeks ago. The portal still says my application is "under review," but I haven't heard a single word. What's the deal?

How long has it been? If it's been a week or so, don't sweet it. But if it's been 3-4 weeks, they probably moved on.

It seems like the hiring process is taking longer now than it did a couple years ago.

Don't stop looking until you get a job offer in writing.

Most likely, you will never hear back about that particular position. But you may hear back that you have been "placed on the eligible list" for a particular type of position.

I guess the hiring process there is different from most other places. It looks like first you look through their entire staffing structure—I mean positions in general, not just the open ones. Then you look at the prerequisites for the positions you are interested in. Complete those prerequisites, get yourself onto the eligible list, and start waiting.

If you're lucky enough to catch an opening while you're still on the list (usually six months or one year), apply right away and then you have a chance. If you're not on the list at the moment the position opens, you'll probably only be considered if there is nobody suitable already on the list.

When I realized that, I started to understand why it is not so easy for them to hire really qualified people. People with really good resumes would not spend an unknown amount of time waiting for something that may never happen.

government jobs at it's best

What on earth did they test you on for 90 minutes?

It can be anything :)

I once had a test consisting of 60 questions. It involved reading a report or instruction written in extremely bureaucratic language, and then answering questions about the text—for example, if A, then would it be B or C, and so on.

Hey people

I have recently received an offer letter from PwC and have signed and accepted the offer (via Workday portal).
Now when I check the tasks against the job on workday, I can see no tasks pending and under completed tasks: a green tick against 'review and sign offer letter (step complete)' (and I can see the offer)
I am told that I would receive onboarding emails from HR, but I haven't yet.

Hello All, I’m a project manager but seeking to pivot into UX Research. I do have some experience but don’t have a portfolio yet. Can anyone advise if I should focus on going through a bootcamp or focus on getting a Masters in HCI? Or just building a portfolio with the experience I do have? There are very few entry-level roles and many places are only hiring “Sr UXR” with 3-5+ years of experience! Any tips on how to break into this field and/or stand out as a junior applicant?? Thanks!

One of your roommates (and a close friend that you’ve known for years) has a flight to catch. He has a suitcase, a duffle bag (no wheels), and a backpack. In order for him to get to the airport would you:

A) offer to drive him to the airport that’s about .5 miles away (5 minute drive)

B) tell him to order an Uber since you know his work would pay for it

C) tell him to not be lazy and walk half a mile to the nearest public transportation stop, with all that luggage, and take public transit
