Why does it feel like finance values prestige over performance? I’ve outperformed peers with fancier degrees, but still get passed over for roles. How do you stand out without the “right” school on your resume?

People who have gone to schools without an abundance of prestige have certainly done well in the industry. Still, it's an obvious boost to have a prestigious school in your background. All you can do is prove yourself and perform at a high level. At some point what you can do for the enterprise today and tomorrow and into the future will carry more weight than where you played lacrosse a decade or two ago.

Because clients place value on prestige - those from prestigious institutions have connections to other accomplished/ambitious/wealth people.

Performance is not always rewarded over connections

The right school is networking, alumni, things that will always get looked at first over performance. It’s a harder path, but you absolutely can go to a “normal” school and still do well in your career.

Hi All,

I had an offer from CGI for 14lpa two months ago. I rejected it as I received an offer from a product based company for 19lpa+5L stocks. Now I am not able to handle the pressure in this Product company and want to go back to CGI. Can I apply to CGI again? Will they take me? Is there any duration to apply again. Please help.

HCL Technologies offer being delayed and recruiter keeps saying that there's a problem with their "Offer release portal system." I have already stated my issues with relocating until after I have the offer signed and ready. The project is supposed to start on the 19th and I'm supposed to join before, or on that date. It's already coming up soon and I don't have the official offer so that I can confidently start the relocation process. Has anyone else recently dealt with this?

I’m 36 and I recently reached a net worth of 1 million dollars. I thought I was doing good but then I see other people with several millions and can’t help but wonder how they got there.
I feel I’m doing everything I’m supposed to (I save, I invest, I max out my 401k, IRA, etc...).

What can I do to upgrade my game and reach those higher numbers?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

Getting paid 85k base with 40k in bonus plus about 35k~ in OT.

Money isn’t everything but in my late 20s it feels like the only thing important right now.

WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?
