What misconceptions do you think people have about social work? or therapy?
Mine is my family still believes that only "sick" or unhappy people need to see a therapist, so they don't understand why I go to one since I have a job and a family. It's oldschool thinking and pretty annoying tbh.

That every social worker works for the government.🙄Or that we only care about getting our paperwork done regardless of the effects on real people's lives. So tired of the social workers are evil narrative

Like the OP said that people who need help are "sick" or "deranged" is the word I hear a lot. I hate it and its annoying.

For social work, it's always the assumption that the only thing social workers do is tear families apart. For therapy, that it's only helpful for a select few, rather than for a variety of situations and people.

I am right there with you. My family doesn't understand my need for a therapist. They act like just because I had childhood trauma, I should be over it already. They don't realize that healing is a journey not a destination.

That we make little money and it’s all common sense and doesn’t warrant a degree.

So sick of this attitude. It’s almost 2023. Everyone needs therapy. Even if you’re mentally healthy. You have to actively maintain wellness, it’s not just something that comes to you passively.

Hi fishes,
Want some feedback for Employees Assistant Program (EAP) by Capgemini which provides facilities to connect with Therapist.
Actually I am going through some tough times(going through a divorce), want to connect to EAP to discuss my mental health issues.
I had connected once and they say that the conversations are strictly confidential.
Just wanted to know do they really keeps stuff confidential or can they inform my Manager regarding the personal conversations.

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?
