Will a $180,000 salary go further in Chicago or Denver? Trying to decide my next move.

There is a bigger lifestyle difference than there is cost of living difference between these two

Chicago. As crazy as it sounds, Denver is more expensive and there are more 'expensive' things to do in Colorado than the Midwest.

Cost of living calculators online lag by a few years, but Denver is more expensive for more things than Chicago- the avg house in Denver is 1.5-2x more expensive than the avg house in Chicago (600k in Denver vs 400k in Chicago).

like

Chicago is cheap because the weather is awful.

KPMG1 is correct - this is more of a lifestyle preference.

I think Chicago, but if you like the outdoors it is hard to beat Denver.

180k will go far in most cities

Chicago. Central time, easier travel, no auto, better food.

lol, I said “one of the main” but alright, get a little touchy because I didn’t like Denver’s food scene among other reasons

like

Google a Costco living calculator to put more specific numbers on it, and browse Zillow to see what a particular mortgage payment looks like.

Cost of, not Costco.

funny

Chicago. It is wild to me how cheap that city is.

Chicago

Or hike

Depends on how/where you spend it. I lived in both and found Denver to be more economical. I can’t think of a cost category that was less in Chicago. But if you’ll take the L and not need to park or gas then car costs will be higher in Denver. Equivalent housing is a bit less in Denver.
But market appreciation is also lower/slower. Insurance for me was higher in Chicago. Health related costs were the same. Restaurants were lower cost in Denver (but not that much.) The bigger thing is they’re really just two very distinct lifestyles and both are reasonable for how you live.

This seems dated. The avg single family house is 1.5x the price of Chicago.
Denver has the higher grocery prices than Chicago, but the kicker is that avg household income in Denver is significantly higher than in Chicago, so discretionary spending is higher. So you will feel more poor at similar levels of salary.

Chicago is absolutely better for food, history and culture. Denver for all things outdoor and mountains/skiing.

Mate, I am one of the best securities traders you can find in the country, contact me today for a deal.

Listen, 80% of my clients have already closed this half with over £600,000 in the green with an average deposit of £125,000 and a minimum of £250!

That's a better margin than most small business owners make in a year.

Specifically said yellow. Hotel calls me a private lux SUV and the driver got out of the car to handshake the man who called and said hi (honestly money couldve been passed). I then get hit with a $180 ride. Marriott website says taxi should be $65. Should I complain or let it go?

Hello! Looking at an opportunity with established startup in UK that's just been acquired by a large co. I'm US based and my salary is around $250k (NYC) -I've been asked my expectation without the startup giving me a range to work from (though I've asked). I'm not sure how to reply to them because I have a feeling that my requirement may be out of their range and while I don't want to undercut my value, I also don't want to be cut out of the process because it's an interesting co. Any advice?
