You might want to check state tax laws. My company is based in Boston and I live in NH. By law I have to pay MA tax
You’re living my dream of working in Boston living in NH
Mentor
I’m also living in NJ working in NY (meaning my role is based in NY, not just that my company is based in NY). You do have to pay NY income tax but you don’t get doubly taxed NJ rate. Doubt you left $ on the table
You withhold and pay NY income tax. Then when you file taxes you claim the Ny state tax as a deduction from NJ taxes. Both states have very similar taxation so there is no real arbitrage
You end up paying higher of the two for NY-NJ. I think NJ is higher by ~$50 per year.. for me. I’m just a salaried individual with only the standard deduction. So I see no point in moving to NJ because either way I’m paying the same amount. It might work differently for you. Or it might not be significant enough to do this. So that’s more food for thought.
