Fuck no. I tell everyone that will listen that avoiding student loans should be priority number one. The freedom of being student debt free is priceless. No pun intended.
Agreed!
Absolutely not. I will educate them from the time their maybe in the tenth grade of how they can figure out ways to get scholarships. I might even show them the option to go to community college and see what they think is better for themselves.
My husband and I don’t want kids but looking back I hate how my parents emphasized the need to go to a “good” school, when local/community college would have more than sufficed for my career (I work in marketing). Blame it on poor financial literacy with my parents but student/parents loans were the only viable way to achieve going to a good school and there is not a single 18yr old that can mentally comprehend 1) how much your loan payment will be and 2) how much your other expenses will be on top of that loan payment in comparison to your starting salary.
My parents thought it was more important to pay to send me a catholic high school instead of saving that money to pay for a college education, and mind you I grew up in a great school district. To this day they refuse to admit that was a horrible choice. Meanwhile, I’m still stuck paying off $1100/month payment on the parent loan.
Depends on the options available and what careers they're thinking of. I think private loans with no interest aren't too bad. But for example, for med school or engineering or se I think cc then state school is a great option. If business school, then ideally a top school and might have to take the hit.
The reality is that many are discriminated based on their lack of a degree. In my 40’s I got my degree because all internal positions I applied for claimed my lack of degree was what took me out of the hiring pool. So I go get my degree and guess what. That same job now claimed I didn’t have another skill. This position is as the same that I was doing but in another team. I left that company and the one I moved to paid me the money I wanted without any negotiation.
