It's very important for the reasons you listed. I'm more productive at home and the flexibility remote work affords me is easily the most valuable perk my job offers. I wouldn't give that up unless I had no other choice.
It’s huge! My son plays travel sports and practices often start at 4. I wake up early , and if I need to work late I use my lunch hour to take him, and sign back on when I get back. Most parents on his team do the same. He couldn’t play if I had to commute into the city everyday. Remote work is huge. I am paycheck to paycheck and I would still turn down more money to stay remote.
Same here!! I think anyone with kids understands that remote work is essential to giving your kids the attention and help they need. I hate the idea of not being home for them when they get home from school. And I can't afford to pay for a sitter for the 3 hours between when they get out of school and I would get home from work. It's just completely anti-family and uneconomical to do a full RTO policy
The article is more focused on ADA compliance and EEOC. I would without a doubt agree the flexibility of remote work has been huge for so many people. Taking my commute out saved me a ton of money. Companies seem to be deciding that RTO is the way now, I think it’s only a matter of time before remote work comes back in full force though.
As a mom, remote work is highly important to me. If my company started a RTO mandate, we’ve agreed that I would give my notice. My children are never going to be this little again! That has to come first. Plus, I know I can efficiently get work done from home and be around to see my kids milestones. I’m not going to revert back now to how it used to be.
Going remote was the best thing to happy for me. I start at 7am. In person I was always late, never on time. Like I was NEVER on time. Overall I hated being in an office, having to dress up, wander around the office if I didn’t feel like working, hide from certain managers or coworkers; I just didn’t want to be there. I’m more productive at home. I can get some home tasks done on my breaks and then I just shut down the laptop, turn off the light and leave my home office. It’s just a better fit for me.
As an introvert trying to get by in an industry filled with extroverts, working from home is incredibly important to me. I will never take it for granted. I’m thankful every day I am able to work from home. It’s not every day, but it is a lot and I’m very grateful.
