I had both situations in my past. One of my executive didnt gave me access right away, he wanted me to go to him, ask him so on. He wanted to see my interest, I think.
Other one gave me all the access in my first day at job. This is a personality type issue I guess. You need to understand their perspective and help them accordingly. Try not take it personally. On the other hand if they do not care to make your life easier, how you will do them same, right?
My thoughts exactly. Thank you for the insight
I had access to my manager's email and calendar. I would think most managers would be o.k. with that considering that the EA is the one responsible for calendar management and responses. If not, there seems to be some unspoken trust issues at hand.
I would bring it up especially if it hampers your ability to do your job. If I can't be trusted to do my job and I am without the tools and information needed to do the job, it is worth reconsidering if the position is worth it.
Absolutely. At some point, a reconsideration may be necessary

Not all execs see the value or have giant concerns about confidentiality. For example, an exec I work with really just wants AA tasks (travel, time entry, expenses). There is no real need for me to have access to his email. Another doesn't feel he can grant access because he's so high up on the food chain, he gets all the detailed client info that is usually so restricted, that even people working on a project don't know who they are working for.
This is helpful. Thank you
Law firm employee here -- it depends on the partner I was assigned. Some wanted full access to calendar/email for scheduling/follow up. Others never gave me access to even their calendar, while other partners/associates just assumed I knew their schedule for the day. It wasn't a question of "earning" ... it was their preference actually.
