Working in logistics means juggling chaos. My phone buzzes before sunrise—driver delays, missed pickups, urgent reroutes. I used to answer every call, even at dinner. It wore me down fast. Lately, I’ve learned to draw the line. I silence work notifications after hours, go for evening walks, and stop feeling guilty for not being "always on." Balance doesn’t mean doing less—it means doing smarter. Anyone else in logistics figure out how to keep work from swallowing your life?

Not logistics (although I have done that before), but retail, and the burnout is just as real. Sounds like you are doing the right things for yourself. Everyone says delegate, and that is an important lesson, but you also need to empower people to make smart decisions. Can you do that in your industry? I really question if it is possible, especially as it sounds like you are the only person able to make some of those decisions.

One important thing we used to say is "Don't let the urgent get in the way of the important". Especially when someone else's urgent isn't the same as your urgent.

You nailed it. Delegating isn’t just handing off tasks—it’s about trusting people to make smart calls, which isn’t always easy, especially if you’re the gatekeeper for key decisions. That saying is gold—keeping sight of what really matters instead of getting sucked into everyone else’s urgent fire drills is a skill I’m still working on.

Absolutely! Logistics really does feel like a 24/7 grind. But you definitely did the right thing by setting boundaries. No job should drain you to the point where it affects your well-being. Knowing when to draw the line is a strength, not a weakness.

You are heading to the right path, unless you are paid as on call or salary for 24-7 you have to draw that line. Let them know how to get a hold of you if it's a true emergency but you need to have time for yourself.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.

He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.
