Since you’re 26, I would prioritize the $180k for now. It’s a good time to take bigger rests than in the future
Ignore your friends. You're young and spot on, the time IS right. Once you have a couple of kids, your risk tolerance plummets to zero. Go for it. If it doesn't work out, so be it. You've got ample time to recover from any setbacks.
You're 26. Take the experience in M&A and move upstream if you both like it and the firm isn't doing well. That experience will be better for a lot of roles. Do be warned though that M&A will likely be slow for a while, so I would expect that your base is pretty much what you'll live off of
If there’s any time to do it, now is the time when you don’t have other people relying on your income. You might as well risk it while you’re young!
