I am fortunate; if any gossip starts ABOUT me, it is reported TO me😈 by the person hearing it. I teach in the neighborhood where I attended school, so my roots are deep here;parents and grandparents, students and colleagues will speak for me. I do MY part as well to avoid the gossip mills.
I do NOT visit other teachers’ classrooms because I do NOT want my name associated with ANY issues.
New teachers are kept at a distance until I vet them. (Came in handy a few years ago.)
There is NO personal relationship between the students and me. PERIOD. EVER! We are not peers.
Few people are allowed in my classroom during my planning time or lunch break (Yes, I eat alone in my room where it’s quiet.)
IF someone brings gossip to me, I go TO the SUBJECT and discuss what was said with them IF the gossip is negative or potentially career threatening.
Now to clarify the “ new teacher” comment: I had a newbie attempt to encourage our students (team teachers) rebel against the rules and regulations of MY class. I always begin the year with STRICT adherence to The Law. They started questioning rules, slacking on assignments, and one day they lectured me on why I should allow them to use their preferred pronouns. Eventually, they saw I wasn’t going to change, and the newbie lost control of discipline in the classroom. Be carefully selective.

Now, this would solve all the problems. We have a man on our team, who is this way . He's always willing to help, but he does not get involved in any of the drama.
I just stay out of all of it and far away. If people will talk to you about others, they will also talk about you to others. I have a few trusted work besties. I stat clear of the rest. I choose to ignore rumors and speculation and wait to be told directly about things from the actual source. I have no patience for drama.

It's funny our admin secretary came into my room yesterday and started saying these same things.
I left education for a little while to work in the corporate world. It’s crazy how much gossip there is even among all adults. Whether I’m literally still in high school or at an office, gossip is huge. Depending on the context, serious matters will be brought up, silly things I leave alone.

I guess anywhere there are humans, we will have to deal with all of this. I just hate it when I see teachers hurt by it.
