Hello! I’m based in NYC and looking for my next role. I work in the digital strategy/brand strategy space. I have experience across multiple industries (tech/telecom/Pharma (dermatology)/beauty and skin care and I am looking for a Director or VP role (my last job was a VP). I would like to keep my base of at least $180k (is this reasonable if I look for Director positions too?) Would love to land something soon before we hit the holiday season. Do you think what I am looking for is reasonable?

Moving from T2 to McKinsey. How do vacation requests work? I have family and friends getting married this fall in weddings delayed because of covid, but I’ll just have started so wanted to get a sense of how realistic taking vacation this fall would be and how to approach taking it (e.g. mention to HR, staffing). When and how do you push back on people senior to you? Fifth year dealing with supersenior associate (11th year) who completely lacks good judgment & common sense. One of those super smart but impractical types. As just one example, he recently called me to tell me to call someone who’s on vacation and ask them to send a calendar invite. I offered to send myself but apparently that wouldn’t work (presumably because it would be efficient & make sense.) At what point (and how) do I Just Say No?

I have a Q that I worry is going to make me sound like a jerk, but want some opinions. I do strength training 2x/wk with a trainer who was assigned to me at a gym where I bought a pack of sessions. I don’t really consider myself “his” client bc the relationship is managed by the gym… but lately he keeps saying like “I can’t wait to see what my clients give me for Christmas” and I find it super awkward. Have an interesting scenario. Holiday party season is approaching. At one of our parties (during working hours) there is an optional “talent show.” Employees can win door prizes. We have an entry that is a religious song - like one you would sing in church. I assume we need to let this employee perform this - or we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Likewise, if we permit this song, I assume we cannot compel attendance to the talent show. The talent show is part of a lunch thing.

How much PTO can I cash out when leaving for school? All of it or is there a cap?
