You know that feeling when you’re grinding through your day, doing your best to juggle a million things, but it’s like the higher ups have no clue what it’s really like down here? Sometimes it feels like they set these crazy expectations, offer zero support, and then wonder why morale’s low. Honestly, I just wish they’d spend a day in our shoes to see how much we’re really doing with so little.
It’s one of those things you don’t truly get until you’re in the thick of it.

You make a pretty good point. There are managers who studied business in school and they may know a lot about the theory of management. But they've never done the day to day work that makes the company what it is, and there's no way they can understand what their employees experience. In fairness, some managers make an effort to know what's really happening, but too many, as you put it, just wonder why morale is low.

Exactly! Some really try, but unless you’re in it every day, it’s hard to really get it. It means a lot when they try though.

I've honestly recommended that before at our huge company/store meetings. In front of everybody, I encouraged the store manager to work a day as a cashier and see what it's really like. I feel like a lot of our recommendations for improvements would actually be listened to if they knew what we go through. He laughed it off like, "yeah, maybe!" But I don't think he'll actually do it. If he did, things would change around here.

So true! It’s always easy to laugh it off, but stepping into our shoes even for a day could open some eyes.

Thinking of the thick of it makes me know that it's worth the the end of it.

So true. being right in the middle really shows how tough it gets. Holding on to that “worth it” feeling is what keeps us going.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
