Best business-oriented, but novel-style books with good writing, style, & interesting characters? Not really self-help/advise focused, more of actual literature with business themes/plots. Any recs?

K1, was there a French-Fanadian movie based on that book?

Came here to say what K1 said. Barbarians at the gate is a phenomenal story of greed and hubris, and is very well written.

Also like most of Michael Lewis’s work, lowenstein’s “when genius failed” (LTCM downfall), and “the smartest guys in the room”

The books on Bear and Lehman are interesting to read as well. (“Street fighters” and “a colossal failure of common sense”, respectively)

The cool thing about these books is that if you read enough of them, the same characters start to pop up. It’s interesting to me that there are a good number of people who had their hands in the downfalls of some of America’s most storied institutions.

Also “Losing the Signal”—story of rise and fall of BlackBerry is good

I read all things Michael Lewis.

House of Lies. The book is good, the show is not

I second The Goal

I’m dealing with severe anxiety about my future. Woke up at 4 this morning and found it difficult to get back to sleep. I’ve talked to a therapist and family, taken medication, and read self-help books, nothing seems to work. I feel as though it’s never going to get better.

I’m depressed. Nothing unique about my depression - I’m in big law, my career defines me, when I’m not working I can’t find the will to get off the couch, I’m sad or I’m numb…I know I’m the only one that can make a change to my life…I’m on antidepressants. Just extremely unmotivated and paralyzed. Self-help books are not for me, but I am curious - has anyone tried a guided depression/anxiety journal? Any recommendations if so? Or, if you have experienced the same, what steps did you take?

What's with the saturation of self help/ productivity books on social media (reddit, Instagram etc.) ? Not saying I don't mind reading them, but I see this quite a bit. Know a few people who consciously only read non fiction instead. Just thinking aloud over here. Would like to hear what you guys think ?

Any books/self help materials for someone who is constantly worrying (and waste a lot of unnecessary time)? E.g. No matter if i pass or fail an interview, there is always something to worry about. The worrying/anxiety multiplies when I proceeded further in the interview stages. Now that I signed the offer and is pending background checks, my anxiety is off the roof as it itches closer to my starting date.

Anyone willing to share some best resources (books, podcasts, etc) for imposture syndrome? For awareness, I am a white women in HR. Always struggled with confidence but experienced some brutal/toxic management with my HR role with a bad business partner (now in a new role), and I am continuing to struggle with my confidence. My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Like take care of yourself, it's ok to feel such and such, etc. I'm still newer to therapy so wondering if that's the common experience? Do you ever have moments where you're like wow that actually is eye opening and I wouldn't have gotten that from reading self help books and websites etc?
