Best business-oriented, but novel-style books with good writing, style, & interesting characters? Not really self-help/advise focused, more of actual literature with business themes/plots. Any recs?

Both fiction and Non-fiction

K1, was there a French-Fanadian movie based on that book?

Came here to say what K1 said. Barbarians at the gate is a phenomenal story of greed and hubris, and is very well written.

Also like most of Michael Lewis’s work, lowenstein’s “when genius failed” (LTCM downfall), and “the smartest guys in the room”

The books on Bear and Lehman are interesting to read as well. (“Street fighters” and “a colossal failure of common sense”, respectively)

The cool thing about these books is that if you read enough of them, the same characters start to pop up. It’s interesting to me that there are a good number of people who had their hands in the downfalls of some of America’s most storied institutions.

Also “Losing the Signal”—story of rise and fall of BlackBerry is good

I read all things Michael Lewis.

House of Lies. The book is good, the show is not

I second The Goal

The Phoenix Project

What's with the saturation of self help/ productivity books on social media (reddit, Instagram etc.) ? Not saying I don't mind reading them, but I see this quite a bit. Know a few people who consciously only read non fiction instead. Just thinking aloud over here. Would like to hear what you guys think ?

Are there any good movies or novels that show skill development - like follow through? Self-management? Money management? My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Like take care of yourself, it's ok to feel such and such, etc. I'm still newer to therapy so wondering if that's the common experience? Do you ever have moments where you're like wow that actually is eye opening and I wouldn't have gotten that from reading self help books and websites etc?

Incoming junior-level consultant wants to know what is “billable hour”.
Once in a while I see discussions around billable hours, but I don’t know how that works. After googling, it appears to me that billable hour only matters to me if my salary is paid by hours. Since I will receive a fixed annual salary, does this mean that I don’t need to worry about the concept of billable hours?
A related questions: generally speaking, is the bonus related to the hours that I worked?
Thanks!
