You may have heard the term "seat at the table" when discussing equity and inclusion. I challenge you to think of our work in the following way:
Diversity is when everyone has representation at the table,
Inclusion is when everyone is allowed to eat at the table,
Equity is when everyone has input about what is served at the table,
Liberation is when everyone has the money, real estate, and resources to host.
Let's work towards liberation!

White people benefit from privilege that people of color do not. Privilege is dependent upon to Accountability, which correlates with Responsibility.

Privilege is deemed acceptable each time there is no accountability for choices and decisions made, especially when said choices and decisions cause scarring and trauma in the lives of others.

In golf, "par" identifies the "expected score" on a given hole.

In this country, being White is par; it is the "expected standard" for how every person of color is negatively perceived and treated in the United States of America; it is the expected standard by which white supremacist policies are introduced, implemented, and upheld in this country; it is the expected standard by which the systems of racism are designed to benefit those who are White.

How is your district/school admin working to help Black, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Asian students/families feel safe and supported?

Accountability correlates with Responsibility in this way: When a person accepts personal responsibility for how his/her actions and decisions impact and influence the lives of others, said person holds him-/herself accountable and accepts being accountable to others for the equity and inclusion (or lack thereof) in their spheres of influence.

The concept of PAR can be applied to racial equity and inclusion work as:
Privilege
Accountability
Responsibility

Privilege is reinforced over time - it does not happen suddenly!
