Young solo here w/ a question about fees: 1. A local solo criminal defense attorney has offered to pay me to go and make appearances before the Court on some of her cases to make announcements. (For example, “ready when reached”). I’m open to doing this and this attorney is asking what my fee would be? Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on what a reasonable fee would be to do something like this? Hourly? Flat Fee? 2. I want to ensure this is ethical. I don’t see an issue with this. Thoughts?

Finishing up my first year of big law, thinking of starting my own practice while I work at my current position. Thinking that in a few months, I’ll concretely work solely for my own practice full-time. How difficult is it to gain clients (mainly PI and civil lit)? My mentor also offered me to be an off counsel while I’m working at my current job so that I can refer cases for a cut, would there be an ethical issue? Just got fired from my first job for not having good enough work product. I work at a small town firm general practice—-litigation and municipal law — the assessment was fair I think.. just feeling like there was not much of a warning. I was catching myself daydreaming a lot and the partners questioned if I was suited for civil practice. I guess I didn’t worry enough about my work product being perfect because I thought not getting right the first year was normal, guess not
