First year manager
Rising Star
I second this.
Rising Star
I only went up to senior accountant before leaving to industry. It didn't seem to get any better as you go up. Imo the lack of WLB and stress is only worth it for a few years to get your CPA and then land a cushy industry job.
Senior
Pro
Set calendar reminders for them, follow up constantly etc. still becomes an issue when someone tells me x y and z will be done by EOD and not done until the following week if at all. Discussions and formal reviews have been had. Continues to be an issue = termed
Rising Star
Heavy senior right before they make manager.
Senior then first year manager (from a stress perspective)
First-year senior. All the same responsibilities plus learning how to delegate and review. The surprise that you are now responsible for the errors of your staff because you reviewed it. I'm now a manager. The hours are longer but I know what I'm doing, so it's less stressful.
Manager in PA.
Been in this business a long time - done both public and private - and I can say without a doubt the transition from Senior to Manager is the absolute worst there is. The expectations jump significantly - you now are caught in the middle of everything and everyone - the bs and company politics you have to suddenly learn to navigate are awful - and you get zero training/guidance on how to do it all.
Senior manager 5-7
First year manager is the worst. Learning the ropes where you have way more admin to do and working with mainly new seniors (second year managers and up usually get dibs on heavy seniors that are soon up for mgr).
You also take a lot of heat if there are mistakes even when there is a senior manager above you since they’re expected to act as an acting director.
Senior and it doesn’t get better until after first year manager.
Employed
1. In charge/ assistant manager
2. In charge/assistant manager
No wlb, you’re expected to act as the manager, train the juniors and pick up the slack when the team isn’t performing
