I was in-charging jobs (some, not all) for about a year before I got promoted. So it’s not uncommon. Sadly, firms are rarely staffed to the point where the transition to increased responsibilities coincides with the increase in pay

Thanks everyone, for the feedback. I've had this happen outside of PA, but not to that extent. I think 4 months was the longest I needed to prove myself into a promotion. 12 months to enter discussions seemed a bit much.

They don't think it be like it is, but it do!

I was reviewing staff 1 / intern work during my whole staff 2 year.

Yes

By the time I got to my first busy season client as a staff 2, I was expected to be senior ready.

It’s happening to me now. But I’m actually grateful for the experience because I didn’t think I would get a promotion before. But now I’m almost certain that I will. Luckily for me though, it was only during busy season and not a year.
