When I called HR i got a surprise answer..
They mentioned the position which I have intervied is different than the salary rem ranges. And my current salary is higher than position what they have got and asked for approval for rem ranges changes..
Is any one faced this? Ideally HR should know expectation and allocation before scheduling intervjew..

If I went through the process and it turned out what I'd been given to understand had changed, I hope I'd be able to walk away. I say I hope so because it might depend on my situation at the time. If I really needed the job I might put up with that, but if I wasn't desperate I wouldn't want to engage with a company which had essentially lied to me.

Thanks for this, I agree context matters. A late-stage change like a $30K drop can feel like a breach of trust, but reality sometimes forces tough decisions on both sides. I think the key is clarity on why the change happened and whether the revised scope still aligns with expectations.
At what point in the process would you expect compensation to be locked in to avoid this situation?
That's a dealbreaker for me. I'd still try to negotiate back to a number I was willing to accept, but I wouldn't be optimistic about my counter being accepted. It's frustrating, but there's not much you can do about it if they're determined to cheap out.

Thank you, this is a fair take. I agree negotiation is still worth trying, especially if the original scope justified the higher range. But you’re right, once a company resets budget expectations, leverage can be limited. It becomes more about fit than just numbers. In your experience, how often do companies actually move back up after a candidate pushes back with data?
