Yep, absolutely. We had a new hire who was a fresh graduate, and during a team meeting they casually mentioned that they were making the exact same amount as me. Somebody who had been at the company for eight years. I politely went straight to human resources and discussed my compensation.
That happened to me last year. I found out a new hire was being paid more than me and it really upset me. I went to my manager and brought up a raise and didn't bring up the fact that I knew people were making more than me. I advocated for myself and was able to get a pretty significant raise.
