From my prior experience, a solution architect at Slalom is a general expert in an area. It may have changed, but the role is not much higher than a regular consultant, but they might help on some sales opportunities in their area of expertise.
Depends on the practice, but for mine, which is IMA (data analytics), an SA has a solid sql background, with the ability to deliver a project. Not involved with sales, as that's more in line with solution principals. I would highly recommend getting re certifiedif yours expired; we're getting much more involved with cloud solutions.
