A senior colleague told me today: "Stop writing for the editor, write for the viewer." It was a reminder that the audience should always come first. What is the best one-line of advice you have picked up in your career?

That's great advice, I tend to forget that because the reader is not the one giving me the most direct feedback. But I will definitely think about that moving forward. I think the best advice I received is "done is better than perfect." As a perfectionist, this really hits home with me because I'm constantly stressing about all the minor details when in reality, the most important thing is getting things done.

Exactly ... I fall into that trap too. The editor is loudest, but the audience is the one we’re supposed to serve. ‘Done is better than perfect’ lines up with that perfectly

"Just start." Start out in bullet points if you need to. Have blanks everywhere, write at the level of a 5 year old, it doesn't matter. It will all get you further than staring at a blank screen will.

That’s gold. I can waste hours second-guessing an opening line, but just starting — even if it’s ugly — is probably the best way to remember the audience, not my ego.

That’s such a great reminder. It’s easy to lose sight of who we’re writing for when deadlines take over. I like that you mentioned “done is better than perfect” — it’s grounding advice.

LMAO what do Afro Latinos look like? I just asked a creative to include more pictures of Afro-Latinos in our hispanic messaging and she said "I tried to find pictures of videos that looked authentic but they didn't have the right look, it's a very specific look". So no black people in the ad cause this white passing lady needs to gate keep who looks latina enough. The blond, blue eyed women in the photos passed though... UGHH.

The argument that climate change is not man-made has been disproven by science over and over again, yet many people believe that the global crisis is either not real, not of our making, or both, in part because the news media deliberately chooses not to talk about it because it doesn't sell enough.

"Don't Look Up" is as real as it can be.
