Why are you saying this..Can you share your experience which leads to this?
Because I am quite happy in IT, i work according to me and have a good work life balance.
Why can't he say?. You are happy and he is not. He is just saying his opinion. Everyone has their own experience and all are equally right.
Rising Star
My 2 paisa, spent 13+ years in IT industry and currently in same age group for which author is worried (35+)
I think people who has joined IT industry after 2008-09 has not seen any real recession, and current situation is not of recession but companies try to take the cost measure for preparation of recession in case it comes.
IT industry of India is very good, we do have many options jobs and many companies which can offer good money at various experiences level. I have seen many average people in terms of coding or technical skill survive and thrive in Indian IT industry, people do have many options of becoming business analysts, product management roles, pre sales roles, licensing roles, quality engineering role, development and engineering roles, devops roles, managerial roles, sales roles, support roles, administrative roles, learning and training roles, system administrator roles, procurement roles, architectural positions role, network Specialist, financial and fintech SME roles, functional specialties roles and many others. Believe me guys no other industry pay 10-30 lakh money to 4-5 years of experience people unless until you are some rankers in those fields.
Many IT people doing their jobs from comfort of their home since covid times and many working in hybrid mode. Recently when I met few relatives at weddings, majority of them are from Non-IT backgrounds and have business backgrounds, they all were like ohhhh you are still working from home. For them it’s never going to possible. Believe me guys most of industry don’t have wfh or hybrid mode jobs.
Now coming to fear of losing job, do I have that fear after 13+ year of experience?? Yes I do.
Do I have confidence that if I will loss the job will I be able to get another job ? Yes 💯 %
Do I have skill which will allow me to continue with higher pay ?? Yes as of now.
If I am making higher pay, what I need to do to justify that pay ? Take more responsibility, know how to make things at scale, know the best practices of field, security fundamentals, performance critical problems and their solutions, latest technical paradigms and architectural patterns, agile practices, be humble and proactive, know how to communicate the right way which convey the message, learn to say NO when plate full with work without being rude, disrespectful and arrogant, learn to negotiate well when in good position of negotiation.
When one is 10-15+ years of experience they have learnt so many things at various stage, know how to sale those learning and lessons along with skills. Sometimes its very easy or simpler things but if we don’t know how to sale it to top people that I have these critical skills and and it will be useful to your organisation/project than its of no use.
Keep technical fundamental clear, in IT same old solutions get repackaged in new way and get sold as new thing. Few years back web pages used to serve from server side(php, jsp, asp. net), and then it got changed to SPA JS framework and now they are coming with SPA(react) + Server side rendering (next.js). Server less solutions being sold which needs real servers, desktop applications replaced with mobile applications, Monoliths get divided into microservices and server divided into docker and K8. Tomorrow something new will come which will repackaged or rebranded into something else to tackle some new problem. But fundamental remains the same.
Indian IT industry is $100 billion+ industry and majority of work comes from developed countries and big pie of work is done by IT companies. For normal people like us we don’t need those big clients, but there are so many small clients which need technical expertise, try to get 1-2 good clients and work for them on part time basis, even if you need to start from 10-15 dollar per hour do it, once you gain confident and have good numbers of client portfolios one can easily reach 30-60 dollar per hour rate along with existing job. This way one will become independent of jobs and can easily rely on multiple client for work. Some of my friends easily making 30-55 lakh in freelance work and they have left their main job and started doing this full time after sometime. When one have 4-5 good clients and they know they are not dependent on main job. I know people who are doing main job and some part time freelance work in their free time and making good money. Getting initial freelance work is not easy but once they get set it change the whole path. Try to be on those freelance or remote work platforms.
Finally, be confident, learn new skills and know how to sale the our learning, generate 2nd stream of income, save and invest well (our real income is Pay in hand - all expenses), learn how to say NO when loaded with more work, network well with various people, teach your juniors without bring jerk and behave well with others, sometimes people remember you for your good behaviour.
Best wishes.

>quit your IT job to apply and prepqre for govt exams
>Start preparing
>Realise you cannot maintain your lifestyle anymore because you don't get paid anymore
>Family members start raising eyebrows at your stupid decision
>Ignore them, you are determined to become a sarkari babu and if you prepare well what can stop you
>Exam day approaches. You are confident in your prep
>Is baar to phod dunga.jpg
>Start writing the paper. Suddenly the invigilator tells everyone to stop writing and submit the papers
>Realise that the paper was leaked and the exam got cancelled
>No worries, this was your first attempt. You will surely make it next time
>Wait 1 year for the exam to get conducted again
>Is baar to phod dunga.jpg
>Take the exam. You did okay but not confident you'll make it
>Results are out. You realise you barely missed the cutoff. Meanwhile the the SC PwD quota idiot standing next to you made it by just scoring half your marks
>No worries, you came so close, next time you'll prepare even better
>Next year rolls around. Your savings are gone, the family has to support you now.
>Exam day approaches
>Is baar to phod dunga.jpg
>Take the exam. It went well. You're confident you'll make it. You have to make it. You're sitting unemployed for 2 years now. You're burden on everyone else.
>Wait for results to be out.
>1 year passes by. No result.
>2nd year passes by. No result
>3rd year, results are out. You made it. You secured an exciting desk job with a govt agency in some other state with an awesome package of 40k per month. Congratulations! Now you only have to attend the training camp for 6 months and then wait for another 6 months for the joining letter
>Go home and reflect on this journey. Realise suddenly it has been about 5 years since you've quit your IT job where you were earning 50k per month.
>Your coworkers are now all earning double digit CTC. Most of them moved out of the country.
>Your friends all got married. Some even managed to have kids.
>Ride you scooter to your best friend's to give him the good news. See a shiny new SUV parked in his house. Your friend tells you he's been saving up for this car for over a year.
>All of a sudden it hits you. You are stuck in time while everyone else moved ahead and left you behind.
>You're 30 years old, unemployed, losing hair because of stress and your family's having a hard time finding you a match for marriage.
>You now realise how different your life would have been if you hadn't read that blasted fishbowl post and quit your job to prepare for govt exams.

Reservations laughing in the corner..
Bhai vaha sab acha chalta to bohot log yaha nahi aate, agar exam aur results aane ke liye 2 saal lagenge upar se opening bhi kam honge to competition badhega isliye vaha bhi bahut bura haal hai.
Chief
Lower salary is only during initial years..switch companies to get higher salary..that's the rule of working in IT..upskill..switch..>>get higher salary🤗. If not upskilling ..no switch then remain in just paid zone ..enough to eat n live with lower salaries. 🤓
Anyway, how many companies have you switched until now? What's your years of experience ? And how much are making?
This post is not applicable to general category male student belonging to middle class india.
Agree but can't complain. If you are general & male (like me), then the fight to get a GOVT job requires 2x effort.
Mast plan hai... Sabko Gormint exam ke liye motivate krdo taki idhar crowd km ho jaye.. 👍👌
Why do u need job security when u can earn in 10 years as much as a govt employee earns in 30 years.
@Someone in EY, we work to earn. Of we had plenty of money sitting around our home, I would have spent my life with what I usually love to do like playing instruments, drawing, making videos, playing chess with my family and friends etc. instead of spending my day in office.
Han bhai achha laga apka post, ab mein login karne ja raha hun.

SSC CGL ka haal suno..
One of my relatives appeared for SSC CGL but result was declared after 2 years. By that time, he was so frustrated and got mental pressure as many of his batchmate were selected in either software industry or other jobs and were earning decent enough to not fall in mental pressure zones.
Later that relative joined railway as Loco pilot after engineering degree 😜
Many govt job aspiring candidates, accept lower jobs or position after 2 to 3 years of struggle as they cannot clear high paying govt jobs bcoz of heavy competition and less openings.
I have seen Doctorates degree holder applying for Chapraasi positions. You may also have read these news..😁
This type of GYAAN is not applicable in india with less vacancies, delay in results, reservations quota on top and exam paper leaks, corruption in filling positions.
At least software industry is giving 60 to 80% of fresh graduates a job to live.
Upar se ab most govt banks are getting privatized. Lol 😆 🤣
Dil ki baat bro, Dil ki baat. One of cousins waited 8 years and wrote plenty of Govt Exams before joining Railway as Loco Pilot.
My another cousin wrote many exams for 7 years and still didn't get any job and still writing exams.
Bhai, agar job lagne ke liye hi at least 6-7 saal lag jaaye, to Kay karein admi?
Usse to achchha yeh hai ki IT mein kaam karo aur usi 6-7 saal mein kam se kam 25-30 lakh kamaao. PBC mein pahouch Gaye to aur bhi zyada.
Ok, no body is saying this. Let me take the honour.
AUTHOR CHUTIYA HAI !
Respectfully disagree, also "corporate IT world" is generalization, life in IT has many shades, if one is stuck with bad company/project/manager, they always have the option to upskill and switch to other better organizations. This freedom is rare in other sectors.
Cisco is the best in terms of WLB
IT sector is employing a lot of fresh graduates. There aren't these many openings in Govt sector to be fair.
But, as I am also leaving IT sector soon, at age of 36, for business. so I suggest you all young guns to have a plan B if things go wrong in IT, or you don't feel like spending 9-12 hours n sometimes weekend shift in IT jobs.
Getting a govt job was lot more easier before 2015 as there were many vacancies in Central govt and banking sector due to financial inclusion.bank jobs were slashed after demonetisation and multiple failed attempts of govt to drastically change the structure of ssc cgl to online, situation became very tough after 2016 and almost herculean task for general category people. Steadily increasing cutoffs, less vacancies, scams in exams and finally unwilling Ness of govt to create more jobs in govt sector are the main reasons.
Still one should try their luck.Getting a good post in cgl is surely a way to get rid of this savage world of IT.

@author my question is are u from reserved category?? If yes than go ahead without amy doubt. In india govt respects caste more than talent..
I wasted 4 yrs after graduation in preparation but didnt get thru but all who are from reserved category got into.
I know how diffucult is to get a job after gap of 4 yrs.
Let me remind u once again competition is increasing day by day.
And what security ur talking about if ur rightly skilled no matter what u will land up in getting a better job whereas u will get oppurtunities to travel around the globe which no govt organization will give neither it will give salary to travel on ur own expenses..
Man ur talking like some old 70 yrs old dadaji with same mind set.
Betaaa chahe chaprasi ban jana lekin sarkarj hi lena dahej mai 12 lkh milenge 🤣
People who have good technical skill sets and good at coding should not bother.
Agar fire bhi go gye to dusri company join kar lenge 15-20 din me aisa trust hona chahiye aone coding and technical skill ke upar.
I am earning approx 7-8 times in India than my friends who is working in govt sectors.
I am highly ambitious guy so IT is bette fitment for me .
Currently 26M, 13lpa in 3.5 yoe...
Initially I used to think the same ...but since I am the sole earner, I don't have the luxury of preparing for govt job...emis, parents health checkup and all consumes most of my salary...
So thinking to continue the same... clear off my loans in next 5-10 years while in IT...
Do not ruin the young minds like this, IT has a lot of interesting things to do along with earning good enough salary to survive. It has a lot of happiness which I think you don’t enjoy at work. You can’t enjoy your work doesn’t mean 22-26 age group guys doesn’t enjoy working. Don’t ruin the young minds like this
Absolutely.
Crap post from a guy with loser mentality
Respect within a society is very subjective clause. If you come from a rural mindset yes its respected otherwise any person in the world who is earning with hardwork is respectable to me in society. Also life is a rat race grass is always greener on the other side so why not water the grass wherever you are in life and make it greener.
26M General. Currently in IT earning 14lpa. Prepped for CGL twice. Got Tax assistant 2400GP in first attempt. Got Auditor in CAG 2800GP in second attempt in which I worked my ass off. Still chose IT because these jobs won’t help me to keep the lifestyle i have today… don’t know whether it’s a right or wrong decision
What if you had gotten 4600 gp or 4800 gp?
Rising Star
I guess it's subjective .. I am quite happy and earning around 3x what the govt employees earn and I am upskilling myself as well. I will make that much in 5 years that I wouldn't even make till retirement in the govt job. Talking about uncertainties, I guess there are many jobs in IT. So, if u leave one, you will get another one.
Note- I would have thought the way you are thinking if I would be making 3-4 LPA.
Govt jobs main "Under the table" bahut paisa ata hai bhai.
Ek colleague se suna tha, uske papa har saal under the table 4 crores earn karta hai.
