Accepted a role that will take me to London for 3 months. From CA in US, wondering what idiosyncrasies I should prepare for when working in UK - anyone got any insights to share?

Still waiting to complete my immigration paperwork, immigration attorney has been supportive but man it has been taking longer than anticipated. Currently have a start date of Feb 12th but not sure I’ll make it there in time.

Anything insights to be shared are more than welcomed.

Biggest problem I have with London is just the prices. Ratio of Salary to rent & everything else is just kind of shit. You'll struggle to get a house as a foreigner without paying some complete rip off.

The tube is speedy, but it's super sweaty and loud. I can't think of any other unusual cons. Try experience some music and culture while you're here!

Data Engineer 1 - are you interested in providing recommendations to venues / clubs / bars / pubs / etc...

I'm a big music fan, done a bit of ghostwriting - actually wrote the Billie Eilish song - No Time to Die. I'm a big James Bond fan amongst other mega hits/artists from the US - used ChatGPT - go figure!

Where should I head to for the party? I'm looking for the the funk and the fun. Work Hard, Play Harder - that's my motto. Any recommendations are more than welcomed.

Regarding ratio of salary to rent - company will be paying for my lodging and providing a transportation stipend, so all good there. Still waiting to hear back from the relocation specialists regarding flats. Looking forward to a speedy tube / commute.

Where should I go? What should I do? I'm into the fringes, anything you'd recommend?

Awww man, ngl I’m so jealous. I’ve been trying to make the move. Is it ok if I reach out to get some job hunting tips?

@ Technical Product Manger 1

Just dropped a massive email in your inbox with a long winded stream of consciousness, including attachment examples to seed your ideations for distinguishing your candidacy while interviewing. Hope it helps! At the very least it may be an interesting read. I’ve reached out to my old coworker to see if he has any contacts still at EY or if he’s got any leads on UK opportunities. Will let you know if he gets back to me. Feel free to follow up with additional questions or comments, (e.g. if you want to bounce ideas / soundboard / or sanity check anything - interview related or otherwise). Big Ups! Stay Strong, Be Nimble, and always remember in times of frustration- there’s a ::winky face:: somewhere in the world. 😉

The pain point she brought up is that we are in different states and she is feeling pressed. Although in that time she has started communicating less and I literally had to beg her to get on face time. My gut says she wants to end it but unsure. Any advice ? Hi everyone! I’m a master’s student in Switzerland, and I’m currently abroad interning at Deloitte AKA working 14h a day for no pay 🙃 just to get a job back in Switzerland
I currently have a couple of “almost” job offers, and I’m going back soon and meeting the employers to talk about logistics including work permit.

Are there non-Europeans here that have gone through the work permit process in Switzerland that can answer a couple of questions?

I would really appreciate it.
