I’d caution against variable rates. The Texas grid can be highly volatile and you could be stuck with sky high prices.
I just joined Octopus Energy and I get a very good low rate for enrolling my Nest thermostat into their Intelligent Octopus program
A coop structure does not insulate them or you from electricity market price volatility risk. That’s good the last freeze didn’t impact their customers, but variable rates are still inherently risky and there’s always a chance customers get stuck with the bill.

have had NEC for 3 years no issues
It is variable fee but doesn’t appear to have all gimmicks.
Also if any one wants a referral please DM. $60 off first bill.

I have reliant and I negotiate my rates frequently. It also depends on what your base rate, delivery charge, and per KWH rate
Just like you negotiate a job, have leverage and competing rates. They do have levers they can pull. But be willing to walk away.
My rate is 0.09c per kWh
