After five years, I finally got the bump to Senior Associate at my mid-sized firm. I thought I’d be doing high-level strategy. Nope. I’m spending 60% of my day fixing typos in first-year memos and managing personalities. The pay jump is nice, but I’m wondering if the prestige of the title is worth the administrative headache. Does the work actually get more interesting from here? Because I'm feeling like a full-time editor right now.

Sounds like you need to start looking. Don't feel guilty about it as they'd replace you in 3 weeks if you died tomorrow.

You are the first level of review and in charge of teaching the juniors, as the partner doesn’t want to do it. You should be doing more substantive edits than typos, though.

You should have been thinking strategic thoughts as a junior, though, and discussing them up. You should also be in charge of the schedule and making sure deadlines are achieved ahead of time. This is your chance to show the partner you are thinking of everything involved in the case, and making sure it gets done.

like

Sounds like you need a midlevel to delegate that kind of reviewing to. As you move up, the admin will change in nature but only increase as a share of your time because you’ll be herding sheep and trying to bring in business. But as a senior, you should be starting to have someone between you and the juniors so you’re not reviewing from ground zero as much.

Do you all feel that the Health Insurance choice is actually all the same? The coverage is absolutely copy and paste for Bronze to Platinum and the deductible/copay is very similar.
I just don’t understand why we have the illusion of “choice” if the offer is the same and it is really bad (in our case).
Going from $61 per paycheck for 2.5k deductible 75% copay to $500+ per paycheck with 500 deductible 85% copay.
Other firms have better health insurance?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice? I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
